The Missouri women’s soccer team opened its regular season with a 0-0 draw on the road against Big 10 foe Iowa on Friday night in Iowa City.
Tigers redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Mercedes Sapp, making her first career start, made seven saves. Redshirt junior Bethany Coons added four shots — one on goal — while junior Sarah Luebbert got two shots on goal in the overtime periods.
Cassidy Nurnberger nearly put a goal away for Missouri in the 7th minute but was denied by Iowa goalkeeper Claire Graves. The Tigers had chances in the 27th, 54th and 87th minute, when Luebbert’s headed was knocked away, but could never capitalize.
Missouri returns to action Sunday at Iowa State.
