Pickaway County authorities are hoping that an autopsy scheduled for today will give them answers as to exactly what happened to an 82-year-old woman found dead inside her home Sunday.
Glenn Kaelbli arrived at the Ballah Road home of his mother, Joyce A. Kaelbli, to check on her just after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and found her on the living-room floor, said Lt. Dale Parish of the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Parish said the nature of her injuries and cause of death wasn’t immediately clear, but Sheriff Robert Radcliff told reporters at the scene that it is being investigated as a homicide.
“There was some ransacking of the home,” Parish said of the house in Darby Township in northern Pickaway County.
He said there has never been a history of trouble there and called the family “nice, quiet folks.”
Parish said Glenn Kaelbli helps to take care of his mother and checks on her often, so whatever happened to her appeared to have happened overnight Saturday or early Sunday.
