A drug-related search warrant by Whitehall police has resulted in the discovery of nearly 3 pounds of cocaine and a stolen AR-15 rifle.
Whitehall and Columbus police searched a home in the 1800 block of East Rich Street on the Near East Side on Friday as a result of an investigation into drug trafficking in and around Whitehall. Detectives found 1,296 grams of cocaine, equivalent to about 2.9 pounds, plus 80 grams of marijuana, an AR-15 rifle that had been reported stolen and more than $53,000 in cash.
One person was taken into custody: Thomas Edwards, 40, of the Near East Side, is charged with a first-degree felony possession of drugs and was being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, court records show.
Whitehall Deputy Chief Tracy Sharpless said in a news release that the arrest of a “large-scale drug dealer” was a major step in combating drug trafficking in the city.
