A small plane that was going to stop briefly in Columbus Thursday crashed shortly after take-off in suburban Philadelphia, killing all three family members who were aboard, authorities say.
The single-engine plane went down around 6:20 a.m. The plane had departed only moments before at the Northeast Philadephia Airport.
The three people killed were identified as Jasbir Khurana, 60; his wife, Divya Khurana, 54; and Kiran Khurana, 19, their daughter. They were from the eastern Pennsylvania area, said Todd Stieritz, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety in Pennsylvania.
Stieritz said it was believed that they planned to stop at a Columbus airport before going on to their final destination.
Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on the scene Thursday. Debris from the crash was spread over several backyards in Upper Moreland Township, which is about 30 miles north of Philadelphia.
