Drone photos offer change of scenery from our ground-level perspective

“Humans see what they want to see.”

That’s how one of the characters in Rick Riordan’s popular young-adult novel, “The Lightning Thief,” describes the concept of perspective. The question is: What do we want to see?

Often, there is little room for debate. The desk that we see across the room is a desk. The car in the next lane is a car.

But when our view is altered by a change in angle or context, the result can serve as an inkblot test that opens up more creative impulses. What we actually see and what we interpret an image to be can diverge.

Consider these aerial photographs, all taken this year by drone above central Ohio. Offering an unusual perspective on familiar sights, you might be surprised at what you think you see in these pictures and what is really there.
