Woman dies from July shooting on the Southeast Side

A woman who was shot last month while trying to break into a home on the Southeast Side died from her injuries Friday afternoon, according to Columbus Police.

Police have now labeled the death of 48-year-old Twyla Marie Dillard a homicide.

Police were called just before 2 a.m. on July 19 to the 2000 block of Jonathan Park Way, south of Tussing Road, on a report of a shooting. There, they found Dillard lying on the ground; she had been shot.

She was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition. She died Friday at 12:25 p.m.

Police said Dillard was attempting to break into a home on Jonathan Park Way in violation of a civil protection that had been filed against her. They did not identify the shooter and no one has been charged.
