A Columbus firefighter and a civilian were both taken to hospitals Monday afternoon after a house fire on the East Side.

The fire was reported at a home on the 1500 block of Genoa Place around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

A resident of the home was rushed to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in critical condition with burn injuries, Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said.

A firefighter sustained a back injury and was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in stable condition, he said.

The identity of those injured was not immediately available.

Martin said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The multi-story, approximately 850-square-foot home, which was built in 1956, sustained considerable damage.
